Commercial Rules

VENUE

The 28th Indy International Wine Competition takes place May 22 & 23, 2019 in the Memorial Union Ballrooms at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Entry forms, wines and fees must be received by May 10, 2019.

JUDGING

Panels of wine experts will conduct a blind judging. The INDY is world-renowned for the quality and diversity of its thousands of wine entries from around the globe, for the skill and reputation of our judges, and for the professional operation of the entire event.

ENTRY FEES

$75 USD per entry. Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discover or check payable to Purdue University. Purdue University is not responsible for costs incurred due to wines not received by deadline.

ENTRY RULES

(1) Wines must be commercially available or bottled by May 24, 2019. (2) A commercial label must appear on all bottles. (3) A wine may be entered in only one class. (4) Enter predominant grape variety or fruit on the entry form. (5) A varietal must contain at least 75% of the designated variety. (6) Wine with less than 75% of any single variety must be entered as a blend. (7) Enter the vintage on the entry form. (8) Enter the % true residual sugar (RS) content (% = g/100mL, not g/L. 10g/L = 1%) on the entry form so the entries can be arranged properly for judging. (9) Enter information from the front of your label that identifies your wine on the entry form. (10) Competition coordinators have the right to reclassify entries if they believe the entry has been incorrectly classified.

HOW TO ENTER & SHIP WINE

(1) EITHER enter online at www.indyinternational.org OR fill out the entry form. You may also bring your wines to our address. (2) Send entry form with fees to our address. (3) Send three bottles per entry to the address below. Three bottles ensure sufficient wine for evaluating the Wine of the Year and for any bottles that appear "off". (4) Include a copy of the entry form in each box. (5) Direct shipping is authorized by Indiana ATC permit LOA 041620. (6) All customs, transport and broker fees must be pre-paid or wines will be refused.

MEDALS & TROPHIES

Winning wines will receive best of class, double gold, gold, silver or bronze medals. Select double gold winners will be eligible to compete for Wine of the Year trophies, which include Wine of the Year, Red Wine of the Year, White Wine of the Year, Rosé Wine of the Year, Sparkling Wine of the Year, Dessert Wine of the Year, and Fruit Wine of the Year.

Trophies will also be presented to the Winemaker of the Year and Winery of the Year, Label Design of the Year and Packaging Design of the Year.

Indiana trophies include Winery of the Year, Farm Winery of the Year, Wine of the Year, and Traminette Wine of the Year.

PROMOTION

Winners will be posted online at www.indyinternational.org. Winners will receive medals and promotion soon after. Complimentary material available for download: bottle neck holder, shelf talker, award announcement, and press kit. Bottle sticker medallions will be available for purchase after the competition. All wines received become property of Purdue University. Join us on Facebook for the live awards presentation on May 22.

ENTRY RULES

(1) Wine must be made by a non-commercial winemaker legally permitted to make wine in a non-commercial facility. (2) A wine may be made from grapes, fruits, vegetables, flowers, honey or kits. (3) A wine may be entered in only one class. (4) A label must appear on all bottles and include the winemaker's name, wine class number, predominant grape variety or fruit, vintage and sweetness. (5) Enter predominant grape variety or fruit on the entry form. (6) A varietal wine must contain at least 75% of the designated variety. (7) A wine with less than 75% of any single variety must be entered as a blend. (8) Enter the vintage on the entry form. (9) Enter the sweetness level on the entry form as either "dry" or "sweet". (10) Enter information from the front of your label that identifies your wine. (11) Competition coordinators have the right to reclassify entries if they believe the entry has been incorrectly classified. (12) Distilled products are illegal and not accepted.
