Indy International Wine Competition July 29-31 at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University will host the Indy International Wine Competition July 29-31.

The event, organized by the Purdue Wine Grape Team, will take place at the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms off State Street. The event is open for public viewing 9 a.m. to noon July 29-30, but tasting is not permitted. Also open to the public is the Wine of the Year grand finale from 11 a.m. to noon July 31.

"The 2015 Indy Competition is a tribute to the vibrant success of the American wine industry and to modern agriculture's great contribution to our national and local economies," said Christian Butzke, professor of enology and chairman of the competition.

The major trophies that will be awarded are Wine of the Year, Red Wine of the Year, Rosé of the Year, White Wine of the Year, Fruit Wine of the Year, Label Design of the Year, Winemaker of the Year and Indiana Farm Winery of the Year.

The competition typically receives more than 2,000 entries from 15 countries and 40 U.S. states. The nation's largest scientifically organized and independent wine competition attracts winemakers, winegrowers, enologists, wine writers, chefs and sommeliers, wine distributors and retailers and consumers.

All proceeds from the competition support graduate students in Purdue's enology lab.

Results from the competition serve as a buying guide for consumers and increases a wine's retail value. Results will be available Aug. 3 athttp://www.indyinternational.org.
